After years of crafting wallets, I noticed something that bothered me about my own daily carry. I’d have a handful of coins in my pocket, worth enough for coffee or a quick purchase, but nowhere proper to store them. They’d rattle around loosely, weighing down my trousers and making me feel like I was carrying loose change rather than being properly organized.

The challenge wasn’t just adding a coin compartment—anyone can do that. The real test was creating one without turning the wallet into something bulky and impractical. My first attempt with a coin pocket made the wallet twice as thick. It worked functionally, but carrying it felt like having a small book in my pocket.

Getting It Right

Conrad represents the solution I’d been working toward. After multiple prototypes, I managed to create a wallet with a proper coin compartment that adds only 3mm (0.12″) to the thickness of my standard Nelson design. The coin pocket sits perfectly within the wallet’s architecture, accessible but not intrusive.

The compartment holds 15-20 coins comfortably—enough for parking meters, tips, or those situations where you need exact change. More importantly, it keeps them secure and organized rather than loose in your pocket.

Beyond Coins

I deliberately designed the coin pocket to serve multiple purposes. The dimensions are precisely calculated to accommodate not just coins, but also 5-6 additional cards when needed, providing flexibility for business cards or loyalty cards you don’t use daily. The compartment also works perfectly for a couple of essential keys or small items that need to stay secure but accessible.

The main wallet maintains full functionality: 25-30 banknotes lie flat without folding, 7 cards fit in the main compartments, and there’s a dedicated back pocket for your most-used card. Everything has its place.

Built to Last Generations

I craft each Conrad from premium full-grain vegetable-tanned leather—the same type used in luxury goods that last generations. Unlike chrome-tanned leather found in mass-produced wallets, vegetable tanning uses natural tannins from oak bark, a process that takes months but creates leather with unmatched character and durability.

The real magic happens in my workshop during the hand-dyeing process. I apply multiple layers of leather dye by hand, working each coat deep into the grain until I achieve the perfect depth and richness of color. This isn’t just about aesthetics—hand-dyeing allows the leather to age gracefully, developing a unique patina that tells your story while maintaining its strength and structure.

Every stitch is placed by hand using waxed linen thread, creating seams that actually strengthen over time rather than weaken. The edges are hand-finished and sealed, ensuring the wallet maintains its refined appearance even after years of daily use. This traditional approach takes significantly longer than machine production, but it’s the only way to create a wallet worthy of carrying your essentials.

The sizing works perfectly for Euros, Pounds, Swiss Francs, and virtually all global currencies.

Personal Details

Each Conrad includes complimentary initial embossing. I recommend placing the personalization on the first inner pocket—visible when you open the wallet but subtle in daily use. You can also choose your preferred thread color to match your style.

Conrad arrives in a protective canvas pouch, ready for daily use or gift-giving.
